Award-winning music icon Lionel Richie has left fans around the world concerned after reportedly falling ill during a live performance, forcing him to cut his show short.

The 77-year-old singer was performing at the Grand Casino Arena in Saint Paul, Minnesota, on Wednesday as part of his 26-city tour alongside Earth, Wind & Fire when he reportedly began feeling unwell.

According to multiple publications, Richie started experiencing dizziness about 55 minutes into his set. Videos shared on social media show the legendary performer sitting down while singing some of his biggest hits before addressing the audience and explaining that he was feeling dizzy.

Richie reportedly told concertgoers that he would be back shortly, prompting the audience to wait for around 40 minutes. However, his saxophonist, Dina Soldo, later informed fans that the singer was too unwell to continue with the performance.

Reports state that Richie was then taken from the venue by ambulance and transported to a nearby hospital for medical attention.

One of the final songs he is believed to have performed before the concert was halted was his 1986 hit, 'Dancing on the Ceiling'.

Prior to the performance, Richie had shared his excitement on social media, posting: “Opening night rehearsal, soundcheck… showtime tonight. St. Paul, you’re up!”

Following the incident, fans flooded social media with messages wishing the music legend a speedy recovery. Organisers have since confirmed that the remainder of the concert could not continue, with updates regarding any postponed or rescheduled performances expected once Richie’s condition is assessed.
