Demi Lovato's mother, Dianna De La Garza, is opening up for the first time about the moment she found out about her daughter's overdose.

Speaking to Newsmax TV, Dianna says her heart dropped when people sent her text messages saying they were "praying for Demi". She was unaware that Demi overdosed when the texts started flooding in.

"It's still a really difficult thing to talk about. I literally start to shake a little bit when I start to remember what happened that day. I was actually looking at my phone and all these texts started coming in," she said.

Dianna says Demi's assistant called her soon after with the devastating news.

"She said Demi overdosed. So I was in shock, I didn't know what to say. It was something I never, ever expected to hear as a parent about any of my kids. … I said, 'Is she OK?' And she stopped for a second and she said, 'She's conscious, but she's not talking.' I knew at that point that we were in trouble."

When Dianna got to the hospital, Demi was in "bad shape".

"We just didn’t know for two days if she was going to make it or not,” she says.
