Celebrities are among the scores of people affected by the devastating California wildfires that have claimed the lives of at least 40 people and destroyed thousands of structures.

Miley Cyrus took to Twitter to reveal that her Malibu "house no longer stands". Her dogs and her fiancé Liam Hemsworth made it out the home before it was engulfed by flames.

"Completely devastated by the fires affecting my community. I am one of the lucky ones. My animals and LOVE OF MY LIFE made it out safely & that’s all that matters right now. My house no longer stands but the memories shared with family & friends stand strong."

'300' actor Gerard Butler returned to his Malibu home to find it has completely burned to the ground.

"Returned to my house in Malibu after evacuating. Heartbreaking time across California. Inspired as ever by the courage, spirit and sacrifice of firefighters. Thank you @LosAngelesFireDepartment," he wrote.

Singer Robin Thicke and his family were among those evacuated from their homes.

"Family is safe! Praying for everyone out here!" he captioned a video of them driving away from the fire.

The 'Blurred Lines' hitmaker also shared a picture of this home as the fire approached.

The Kardashian-Jenner clan also took to social media to share their experiences.

Kim Kardashian and her husband Kanye West reportedly hired private firefighters to help save homes in their Hidden Hills neighbourhood.

"I heard the flames have hit our property at our home in Hidden Hills but now are more contained and have stopped at the moment. It doesn’t seems like it is getting worse right now, I just pray the winds are in our favor. God is good. I’m just praying everyone is safe," she wrote on Twitter.

Her sisters Kourtney Kardashian, and Kylie and Kendall Jenner revealed the fires were close to their houses, but thankfully their homes are still standing.

Caitlyn Jenner had to evacuate her home. Her house also survived the fire.

Here's a look at how other stars, including Lady Gaga and Orlando Bloom, were also affected.

Sadly my house couldn’t be saved. The courageous firefighters were able to save my cars and personal items recovered from my home. I thanked the fire chief and his team of firemen for all of their hard work. He took the time to explain what happened and I’m grateful for all of their hard work trying to save my home. Sad we lost our home but grateful that my family is safe. Luckily we quickly evacuated our house yesterday after a patrol car drove up the street announcing mandatory evacuations. I’m grateful for my lovely neighbors and friends who kept me informed and for their help this evening. 🙏 Thank you all for caring 💜 #woolseyfire #malibu. Special thanks to Fire Chief Rash and his brave team of firefighters. 🙏
