Ben Affleck on using AI in his latest movie: 'I used it for lots of things'

Artificial Intelligence is becoming increasingly common in Hollywood, and Ben Affleck is the latest filmmaker to open up about using the technology in his new Netflix thriller, 'Animals'.
American filmmaker and Academy Award winner Ben Affleck is getting ready to release his latest movie, 'Animals'.
The actor and filmmaker recently spoke at Bloomberg’s annual Screen Time Summit, where he revealed that artificial intelligence (AI) was used while making the Netflix thriller.
Affleck said he was hesitant to reveal exactly how, because doing so could take away from the illusion of reality that filmmakers try to create.
“I’m a little bit hesitant to point out what they are or even talk about it because in my business, we’re trying to foster the illusion of reality, right?
“It’s sort of like if you went to a magic show and the magician walked out and said, ‘Just before I start, I want you to know there’s another bunny under here. This guy’s a plant.’ It sort of ruins it, right?” he said.
While he kept the details under wraps, Affleck confirmed that AI was used in post-production.
“We did use it. And in fact, I thought it was a good example because it’s a very human movie. It’s not in space. It doesn’t have visual effects. But it allowed us to move in some cases more quickly, really mostly in post-production, to do things that otherwise we wouldn’t have been able to do,” he added.
Ben Affleck says his AI was used extensively in his recent movie.

'Animals' is set to premiere on Netflix on 9 October. The thriller was co-written by Affleck and stars Kerry Washington and Mark Kimball.
The revelation comes months after Affleck sold his AI company, InterPositive, to Netflix in March for a reported $587 million.
