#SONA2016: Red carpet fashion favourites

The arrival of ministers, honourable guests and members of Parliament ahead of the State of The Nation Address has once again become a red carpet affair.

President Zuma has delivered the State of the Nation Address in a joint sitting in the National Assembly where he mapped out efforts of his administration and the Programme of Action for 2016.

While some South Africans tuned in as proceedings began, others were glued to their screens to see early arrivals on the red carpet.

Dressed in a canary yellow Gert Johan gown, Public Protector Thuli Madonsela was easily a favourite. Sharing a sneak peek of the masterpiece, she tweeted ‘Thank you…for the awesome gown. Hope I do justice to it today.’

One of the best dressed couples were Minister of Home Affairs Malusi Gigaba who co-ordinated his look with that of his wife, Norma. She was dressed in a bronze cum golden number.

Twitter celebrity, Minister Fikile ‘Mr Razzmatazz’ Mbalula arrived in a double breasted suit, alongside wife, Nozuko in a red satin piece.

Although we were hoping for tuxes, Julius Malema and Mbuyiseni Ndlozi (and the rest of the EFF) were dressed in signature red overalls and berets as largely expected.

Another head turner was late statesman Nelson Mandela’s grandson, Mandla Mandela who - to the surprise of many - arrived with his third wife Nodiyala Mbali Makhathini.

Mandela wed his fourth wife Rabia Clarke last week.

Here are the looks that have kept social media abuzz from the most anticipated official event on the calendar.
