KZN dam levels 'steadily decreasing'

As a country, our water situation remains dire.

National government says this is despite widespread rain and thundershowers in some drought-hit areas this month.

Officials are urging communities across the country to continue to use water sparingly.

Northern KZN is one of the worst affected areas in South Africa.

Water and Sanitation's Mlimandlela Ndamase says the recent rainfall wasn't enough to bring up dam levels.

"We are actually still experiencing a steady decline in our dam levels in the country. What this means is that as South Africans we must continue using water sparingly, we must continue taking care of the water resources that we do have.

"On our part as government we will continue assisting community in distress," he said.
