'Judge Desai not ideal for Public Protector post': Ad Hoc Committee
Updated | By ECR Newswatch
Parliamentary Ad Hoc Committee member Glynnis Breytenbach feels Judge Siraj Desai is not the best person to be our next Public Protector.
Breytenbach says the Public Protector should be able to control their temper as they'll be subjected to huge amounts of stress.
The judge told the committee that he was a cancer survivor.
But Committee member Bongani Bongo says his health should not be an impediment.
"The Constitution clearly states you cannot discriminate against a person - it speaks on a number of things you can't discriminate against. Among others, health is mentioned," he said.
During his interview - Desai was asked for his opinion on the silent anti-rape protest by four women during President Jacob Zuma's speech at the announcement of the election results.
EFF Leader Julius Malema says the fact that Desai refused to answer the question should be of concern to all.
