Former cop killed in Toti trying to save his family

A former policeman has tragically died while trying to protect his family during a house invasion in Amanzimtoti at the weekend.
Raymond Collyer was shot in the chest in front of his loved ones on Friday night. Four gunmen entered his property during a family gathering.
Collyer's brother Wayne says the 43-year-old and another brother jumped to stop the intruders.
"My brother was shot by one of the gunmen and when he basically lost power, he and my brother collapsed to the ground. They obviously wouldn't stand a chance against the gunmen," he said.
Raymond's wife Shirley jumped over their property wall to alert their neighbour who set off their alarm.
Wayne says if it was not for his brother the family might not have survived the ordeal.
"There was a lot of women and children in the house and our biggest fear is they could have killed all of us and raped the women and children. So I think he died saving his family," he said.
Police are investigating a case of murder. No arrests have been made.
