As Wednesday's local government elections draw nearer, political parties across the country will be using this weekend to wrap up their campaigns.

The IFP will be in Nkandla and Ulundi today and tomorrow with leader Mangosuthu Buthelezi leading the campaign. The party's Narend Singh says they have received positive feedback during campaigning.


"Whether the prince, Mangosuthu Buthelezi, was in Limpopo, Mpumalanga, Eastern Cape or in any part of KZN, there were hoards of people expressing interest to not only vote for us but some to join our political party," he said.


The DA will conclude its national election campaign in Dobsonville, Soweto today. The party's eThekwini mayoral candidate Haniff Hoosen says they have been overwhelmed by the reception during campaigning.


"We have noticed over the last 2 and a halt to 3 weeks the response on the ground has been very resounding. People are very excited about the elections. I think this will be the most historic election since 1994," he said.


The ANC is meanwhile putting the finishing touches to its main rally at Ellis Park in Johannesburg tomorrow with those in KZN expected to gather at Durban's Moses Mabhida Stadium to catch party President Jacob Zuma's address on a big screen. Zuma told supporters in Soweto yesterday the ANC remains strong.


"We have been there. We are here. We are going to be around forever as the African National Congress," he said.


EFF members will be headed to the hometown of leader Julius Malema for their final rally at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane tomorrow.
