Families displaced after Sea Cow Lake shack fire
Updated | By Anelisa Kubheka
More than 15 families have been displaced following a shack fire in an informal settlement in the Sea Cow Lake area in Durban. The fire's believed to have been caused by illegal electricity connections.
Regan Stander who's with the National Emergency Assist Services was on scene yesterday assisting fire-fighters put out the blaze.
He says it took six hours to extinguish the blaze that engulfed many homes.
"National Emergency Assist Services responded to the scene to assist fireman with medical standby. We treated one patient on the scene who was suffering with asthma as a result of smoke inhalation. They were treated by KZN EMRS on scene for those injuries," he said.
Yesterday local councillors were also on scene to asses the damage.
