Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu has been re-admitted to hospital for a recurring infection.
According to a statement by the Tutu family, the 84-year-old checked himself into a Cape Town hospital earlier this week and will be receiving treatment for a week or two.
Tutu's daughter confirmed that he was admitted for the same bug that saw him hospitalised for a week in 2015.
"He is expected to remain in hospital for a week or two. The Archbishop underwent similar treatment last year," Thandeka Tutu-Gxashe said in a statement.
Last year, Tutu was admitted to hospital with the Desmond and Leah Tutu Foundation that provided regular updates to the the media on his medical condition.
