Woman granted permission to harvest dead partner’s sperm

A Queensland woman’s dream to start a family with her boyfriend of two years was crushed when he died suddenly in August.

But thanks to a ruling by the country’s supreme court, her dream could soon become a reality as she has been given the green light to harvest his sperm.

Hours after Joshua Davies’ death, his girlfriend Ayla Cresswell, 23, approached the court to ensure his sperm remain viable.

Not only did Supreme Court Justice Martin Burns grant permission for Joshua’s “testes and any spermatozoa” to be removed, he also ordered that an IVF organisation store the tissue pending another court application, according to The Courier Mail.

The court heard that the couple were planning to get married and hoped to one day have three children.

 “Joshua told me that he was very excited at the prospect of being a father, and we often talked about having children, and the effect it would have on our live… It is my honest belief that this is what Joshua would have wanted,” Ayla is quoted as telling the court.

Joshua’s family support her efforts, with his father John Davies saying he is sure his son would have loved her to have his children.
