How to propose to your man this leap year

How to propose to your man this leap year

If you have been waiting on your partner to pop the question, 2016 is a good year for you to turn the tables!

Proposing

It’s a leap year, which means, as is tradition, women can propose to men without anyone giving them the side eye.

Throw tradition out the window and take the next step in your relationship on 29 February.

But just how exactly should you go about popping the question?

Take advice from these famous ladies…

Iconic fashion designer Diane von Furstenberg asked her current husband, Barry Diller, to marry her on his birthday. She told Oprah during an O magazine interview that she kept it casual, and simply said: “You know, if you want, for your birthday, I'll marry you.” They have been married for nearly 14 years! Actress Kristen Bell proposed to Dax Shepard on Twitter!

As soon as the US Supreme Court ruled in 2013 that a ban on same sex marriages was unconstitutional, Kristen took to the social network to share her joy. She had previously said she would not get married until same sex couples had the same rights as them.

Do find out if he’s ready for a big commitment

Before you get down on bended knee, do have a conversation with your partner about what his thoughts on marriage are. If he indicates that he is not ready, there is no need for a proposal on 29 February that could end in tears.

Say no to grand gestures

If you do decide to bite the bullet and pop the question, it might be a good idea to keep your proposal as modest as possible.  It will help with your nerves if there are less people around, and if he says no, you can avoid public humiliation – like this woman.

Asking nicely also helps!

If your proposal gets rejected, at least you will know where you stand in the relationship, instead of sticking around for years waiting for him to pop the question.

He also has to pay you a penalty (a gown or money) for saying no, so hey, it’s a win-win situation.
