Avril Lavigne has had quite an interesting career since hitting the music scene back in 2002 when she released her first album, Let Go.

There have been rumours since her debut that she actually died and that she has been replaced by a lookalike. By the looks of her new music video, the star has definitely 'risen from the dead' - but she is very much alive and kicking.

Lavigne dropped her new 'I Fell In Love With The Devil' music video from her 'Head Above Water' album, and it sees her embracing a more gothic approach.

The music video features the 34-year-old star in a series of dramatic gowns as she toddles off into a graveyard, where she encounters a man which is assumed to be the 'devil' that she's referring to.

She has been met with a wave of backlash from Christian critics who have attempted to unpack the meaning behind the song - especially because she is seen waving around a crucifix in the graveyard.

However, Avril has responded, saying that she wrote the song as "a constant reminder to myself that some of the darkest people in this world can be disguised as angels." She went on to add that she will now "bury the constant heartache and trauma, close the casket and never look back."

I wrote I Fell In Love With The Devil as a constant reminder to myself that some of the darkest people in this world can be disguised as angels. It will continue to remind me of my worth and what I deserve as a woman. Sometimes it’s not easy to walk away. But I am so sick of the pain and heartache, and I know what I deserve. Please allow my song to be your reminder to not let someone else’s demons take you down. I am now going to break this fucking cycle, bury all the toxic relationships and things people have done to me in the past, PRESENT & future ...⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣ I will bury the constant heartache and trauma, close the casket and never look back. ⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣ RIP⁣⁣⁣, Avril

The red gown at the end of the music video will be enough to give you life and let you know that Avril is alive, well, and here to stay for a really long time to come.
