'Ding-dong, your parcel is here!' 7 meaningful ways to appreciate your delivery driver

Celebrate International Delivery Driver Appreciation Day by showing appreciation for the people who work hard to ensure your parcels, meals and other essentials make it safely to your door.
August 18 marks International Delivery Driver Appreciation Day - a day dedicated to recognising the hard work that goes into getting the things we need and order delivered to our doors.
While it can be easy to overlook the person behind the wheel when a parcel arrives, the day is a reminder to pause and think about the people who help make these deliveries possible.
Here are seven meaningful ways to show appreciation to delivery drivers - gestures that can extend beyond just one day.
Remember that they are human
It can be easy to see a delivery driver simply as the person bringing your parcel, but behind every delivery is a person doing a job that can come with long hours, traffic, and other challenges.
A little patience, understanding and respect can go a long way.
Show kindness
Nothing beats kindness. A simple greeting, a smile or a genuine “thank you” can make someone’s day.
You may not know what it took for that person to get through their day and still make sure your delivery reaches you, so choose kindness whenever you can.
Acknowledge their role in your delivery
That parcel does not simply appear at your door. Someone has had to collect it, drive it through traffic and get it to you.
Taking a moment to acknowledge the delivery driver’s role in making that happen is a small but meaningful gesture.
Don’t assume you know their story
It is easy to make assumptions about why someone works as a delivery driver. You might think they are doing the job because they have no other options, but that may not be their story.
For some, it may be their full-time job, while for others it could be a side hustle or a temporary income.
Whatever their reason, it should not change the respect they receive.
Treat them fairly when it comes to tipping
If you choose to tip a delivery driver, consider the service they have provided and treat them fairly.
A tip is not always possible for everyone, but when you can afford it and the service has been good, it can be a meaningful way of showing appreciation.
Leave a note of appreciation
If a delivery driver has provided great service, consider leaving a short note of appreciation or using the feedback option provided by the delivery platform.
A simple message recognising their effort can mean more than you realise.
