Six famous women who support their peers

In honour of Women's Day on Wednesday, we are celebrating famous women who support each other. 

The entertainment industry can be a very catty place - especially for women.

We have heard countless stories of top female celebrities not getting along, or fighting over jobs and endorsements. 

But not all of Mzansi's stars have time for drama. They are too busy supporting their peers, and helping make their dreams come true. 

In the words of 'anonymous', "blowing out someone else’s candle won’t make yours shine brighter". 

Here are six famous women who don't think twice about supporting other women in the industry.

Unathi Msengana

'Idols SA' judge Unathi Msengana has many titles. She is a radio and TV personality, a businesswoman, a wife, and a mother. She takes each role seriously, and still finds time to support not only her peers but ordinary South Africans. She constantly shares messages on social media encouraging women do their best, especially when it comes to taking care of their bodies. Unathi is close friends with stars such as Minnie Dlamini, and always has a front row seat to the major events in their lives. 

Basetsana Kumalo 

Bassie, as she is affectionately known, has been described as the mother of the entertainment industry. She has given advice to countless female celebrities, including Bonang Matheba and Pearl Thusi - who refers to her as "mom". Basetsana is also big on women empowerment, and runs a mentorship programme that does just that. She personally spends time sharing her career lessons with 50 young women, while giving them a "push to get them started in their working careers". 

Shashi Naidoo

Model and businesswoman Shashi Naidoo is friends with several female celebrities in SA, and sings their praises on social media every chance she gets. Jo-Ann Strauss and Rolene Strauss 

Beauty queens Jo-Ann Strauss and Rolene Strauss share a last name, and a love for supporting each other. They might not be related, but celebrate each other's achievements like family. Beauty queens often get a bad rap for not being friendly, but not these two besties. They both are committed to to helping shine a spotlight on issues facing South Africa's women and children.
