It's Mother's Day this Sunday, May 10, and if you haven't planned anything yet, it's not too late to make it a memorable one.

Flowers and lunch at mom's favourite mall restaurant is a Mother's Day well spent.

However, if you want to spoil your mother with a unique gift, a musical experience she won't forget or lunch with a view, then these last-minute ideas are worth a try.

Scenic boat cruise

The sun's out this Mother's Day, which means a boat cruise is on the cards for lucky moms. Luckily, Durban has several amazing boat rides on offer, including luxury cruises, canal cruises, and scenic boat tours that offer different views of the city. Prices range from as little as R120 to R3800 plus for private cruises.

Visit the KwaZulu-Natal National Botanical Garden

The KwaZulu-Natal National Botanical Garden in Pietermaritzburg is one of the most underrated tourist hotspots in the province. Some of its highlights include "striking Plane Tree Avenue, Natural Forest, Cycad Garden, Clivia Dam and theme gardens".

Enjoy a picnic with family, or take a nature walk after lunch elsewhere. If you have not been to the botanical garden, Mother's Day is the perfect time to check it out.

Candlelight: Tribute to Adele

If your mother is an Adele or Coldplay fan, give her the gift of a magical music experience. Candlelight Concerts by Fever will be paying tribute to the stars at The Playhouse Company in Durban on May 23. The Izibani String Quartet will be performing some of Adele's biggest hits, including 'Hello', 'Rumour Has It', and 'Rolling in the Deep.

A string quartet will also be bringing Coldplay's 'Clocks', 'Yellow', 'Fix You' and 'The Scientist' to life, surrounded by countless candles.

The candlelight concerts don't fall on Mother's Day, but they will make for awesome gifts.

There are also upcoming shows in Richards Bay planned for June.

Lunch in the foothills of the Drakensberg Mountains

No Mother's Day is complete without a family lunch. If you don't want to cook on Sunday, treat your mother to lunch in the foothills of the Drakensberg Mountains.

Gooseberries Family Restaurant at Grey Goose Game Lodge in Newcastle is hosting a 3-course Mother's Day lunch.

The menu includes sticky chicken wings and peri-peri chicken livers as starters. The mains included roast lamb infused with garlic and rosemary, as well as crumbed parmesan chicken pieces.

Price: R350 per person, R300 per senior, and R180 for children under 10,
