If you’re in and around KwaZulu-Natal this Heritage Day, why not visit one of these heritage sites and learn more about the province’s rich history and culture?

KwaZulu-Natal Museum

The KwaZulu-Natal Museum is a great place to visit during Heritage month if you want to learn more about the history and culture of the Zulu people.

Visitors can explore how the culture has evolved over the years, while also seeing cultural items. There is also plenty of art to see, making it a place where the whole family can learn and enjoy themselves.

Nelson Mandela Capture Site

The Nelson Mandela Capture Site marks the place where Nelson Mandela was arrested in 1962, an important part of South Africa’s liberation history.

A visit to the site gives you an opportunity to learn about the struggles that took place in KwaZulu-Natal and the province’s contribution to the country’s liberation.

Visitors can also take the Long Walk to Freedom from the visitor centre, eventually reaching the famous sculpture of Nelson Mandela’s face.

Luthuli Farewell Square

Luthuli Farewell Square pays tribute to struggle hero Albert Luthuli and his contribution to the fight against Apartheid.

The site offers visitors an opportunity to learn more about Luthuli’s life, his role in the struggle and the history of the liberation movement in KwaZulu-Natal.
