KwaZulu-Natal’s most talked (and walked) about event is around the corner! Entries are now open for the Discovery East Coast Radio Big Walk, which takes place on Sunday, 21 May 2017.
This family event allows you to spend time with your loved ones while getting in some exercise along one of the most beautiful promenades in the country. Remember kids 1 year and younger walk for free and strollers are most welcome. The event starts at uShaka Marine World and will finish at People’s Park, Moses Mabhida Stadium on Sunday, 21st May 2017.
Here’s something fun for all the fast-paced participants! This year we are excited to introduce to you the 5km Fun Run. Get your running mates on board for this one! The Fun Run is limited to 3,000 entries.
Entries are limited all-round this year, so make sure you sign up early to avoid disappointment. If you register before the 14th of April it will only cost R90 per entry and you go into the draw for a family holiday for 4 at the Pumula Beach Hotel. This year we are going paperless and can only enter online! There will be no in-store registrations.
Where, when and how do I enter?
There is a 3-step procedure, if your company would like to enter 20 or more staff members:
1. Visit http://corporate.bigwalkdurban.co.za to register your company and indicate how many walkers you want to enter.
2. We will send you unique voucher codes for each walker which you must then distribute to your team.
3. Tell your team members to visit http://onlineentry.bigwalkdurban.co.za to register themselves and enter their unique voucher code.

Where does the event start and finish?
Start: uShaka Marine World
Finish: People’s Park, Moses Mabhida Stadium
Park-and-ride bus service
There is a park-and-ride bus service operating between uShaka Marine World and the parking opposite People’s Park, Moses Mabhida Stadium.
If you park at the start (uShaka Marine World), and start your walk to the finish area, then you can catch a bus back to uShaka Marine World after your walk.
If you park at the finish (People’s Park, Moses Mabhida Stadium) then you can catch a bus to uShaka Marine World before your walk and walk back to the finish area.
The buses will rotate between People’s Park and uShaka Marine World between 06:00 and 13:00.
Where do I collect my race pack?
Your race pack includes goodies, your DiscoveryEast Coast Radio Big Walk T-shirt, and your race number. You can collect your race pack at Moses Mabhida Stadium on the following days:
Thursday 18 May 2017 - 10:00 to 19:00
Friday 19 May 2017 - 10:00 to 19:00
Saturday 20 May 2017 - 10:00 to 14:00
Distance changes can be done at a cost of R20 only after you collect your race pack.
Discovery Vitality Points
Discovery Vitality members will earn fitness points for completing their selected event in this year’s Discovery East Coast RadioBig Walk: 800 points for the 5km route (walk and fun run), 1 100 points for the 10km route, and 1 600 points for the 20km route. Points will be automatically uploaded and will take up to four days for to reflect on the Vitality Points Monitor.
What do I need to take along to collect my race pack?
When you register online, please make sure you print your entry confirmation. You will need to bring this along to collect your race pack.
