Durban Business Fair: Inspire, innovate, grow

This year, the Durban Business Fair celebrates 20 years of hardwork, business excellene and success, which started off as the SMME Fair back in 1998.

The Durban Business Fair 20 years celebrations brings exciting features that will inspire and equip entrepreneurs with the appropriate skills to grow and sustain their businesses. With the range of empowerment interactive activities such as:

Business Indaba and Workshops:

The conference will center its discussions around radical agrarian socio-economic transformation, radical economic transformation opportunities focusing on capital projects and localization and industrialization. This Year’s business indaba features prominent speakers and well-known business people such as Mr Clive Manci Founding CEO of OTEO Investments holdings and  Mr Rajen Reedy – CEO of KZN OILS. Business indaba workshops and conference will form part of the CNBC TV live panel discussion.

Business Exhibition:

This platform provides exhibitors with tangible opportunities to gain invaluable exposure and potential business opportunities that will ensure they remain an active part of the City’s economy.

Youth Connect: Lead by Nomzamo Mbatha who will share more insight on creating a lasting legacy.

  • Film Making Master Class: Seek to empower aspiring budding filmmakers, conducted by Mr. Anant Singh South Africa’s pre eminent Film Producer Ms. Leleti Khumalo Award winning actress turned TV /Film producer, Ms Thembi Nyandeni popularly known as Mancwane on Isibaya. Mr Tony Kgoroge – Award winning actor and Director.
  • Music Production Master Class: An interactive session with Mr Lindelani Mkhize an award-winning producer and founder of successful gospel group Joyous Celebration as he unpacks the music production business.


Street Market:


This year for the 1st time ever the Fair will feature a street market, which will offer an opportunity to more than 30 street vendors to showcase their products; ranging from food to crafters, home décor and vintage clothing. The Street Market will take place from 21-24 Sep –Walnut Street between the Durban Exhibition Centre (DEC) and Inkosi Albert Luthuli International Convention Centre (ICC).

Women Economic Empowerment Engagement: 

The conference will be focusing more at raising the profile of women in business, creating opportunities and facing challenges, providing information on business support, networking, and finance sharing of experiences to aspire and celebrate the success of women.  The keynote Speakers: Mrs Elinor Sisulu (a Human Activist and award-winning Author) and Mrs Connie Ferguson (actress and Media) mogul. The conference will comprise of panel discussions under the theme: “She Builds, She Leads, She inspires – led by Londi Ngcobo one of the youngest female ship Navigator in South Africa.

Durban Fashion Fair: 

This four-day event will feature exciting activities that such as empowerment seminars by those who are experienced in the industry to give participants the latest trends on beauty, fashion and style. There will be a panel discussion on Friday, September 21 where top panelists within the fashion industry will discuss on various topics relating to the “Business of Fashion” to “Building a brand in the fashion industry” hosted by TV & Radio personality, Anele Mdoda 

The panellists include: Sasha Wyatt-Minter (Editor: www.all4women.co.za); Dimeji Alara (Fashion Director: ELLE South Africa); Masana Chikeka (Program Manager: Design at the National Department of Arts and Culture); Nthato Mashishi (Celebrity make-up artist), Mandy Swart a TFG Buying Manager for Markham , Somizi “ Somgaga” Mhlongo (Media Personality) who will be focusing on brand building within the creative industry and Shona Ferguson (Executive Producer and owner of Ferguson films)  . Attendance to Industry workshops is FREE! 

Tickets to the fashion shows are available at – web ticket and all Pick n Pay outlets for only R100 per show with students and pensioners paying only R50 per show or you can also get them at the venue. For the Recognition awards, tickets cost only R200 with only R100 for students and pensioners. 

NB: Students are required to produce their student cards.
