There's something for every 80s music lover here! Check out these six songs - including some one-hit wonders - that will take you back in time.
The 1980s were an exciting time. Music was changing and Hip Hop was gaining more momentum. The People History website states that New Wave and Hair Metal were started in the 1980s.
Prince, Michael Jackson, and Madonna ruled the music world during this period while Whitney Houston's debut album became the first by a woman to debut at number one.
Let's take a look at our top six best hits of the 1980s.
'I've Never Been to Me' by Charlene
This one-hit wonder was originally released in July 1977, but got rewritten by Ron Miller for Charlene. It was then released in 1982.
'Mickey' by Toni Basil
According to song facts website, 'Mickey' was originally recorded as "Kitty" by a group called Racey, which released it in 1979. However, it was re-released in 1982. It went on to top the charts in December 1982 and was a one-hit wonder for Basil.
'99 Red Balloons' by Nena
This song comes from Nena's self-titled debut album. It was released in 1983.
'Purple Rain' by Prince
'Purple Rain' was released on 25 June 1984 by Warner Bros. It is from Prince's sixth studio album.
In 1985, it won the Academy Award for Best Original Musical and Academy Award for Best Original Song Score.
'Beat It' by Michael Jackson
'Beat It' was released in 1982 by Michael Jackson. It is from his sixth studio album, 'Thriller'.
In 1984, it won the American Music Award for Favorite Soul/R&B Video and American Music Award for Favorite Pop/Rock Video.
