1. The South African economy shrank by more than half in the second quarter (51%)

The country's gross domestic product (GDP) contracted by 51% in the second quarter of the year as the COVID-19 pandemic took its toll on our economy. This is the steepest decline in six decades.

2. Clicks cuts ties with TRESemmé

Clicks have announced that it has cut ties with the hair brand after a racism storm over advertisements depicting black hair as "dry and damaged."

3. The second woman in the England footballers' COVID-19 scandal speaks out

Lara Clausen, 19, has mentioned how she felt "sorry" for Phil Foden's girlfriend. She also gave further details about their secret liaison with Foden and team-mate Mason Greenwood inside the official England team hotel, stating that she had no idea who he was.

4. Finance Minister Tito Mboweni has green fingers 

By the looks of it, Tito Mboweni is no longer accidentally growing marijuana. On Tuesday, he posted photos of what appears to be tended marijuana plants, covered by shade cloth – and claimed them as his own. The number of plants displayed is well over the proposed legal limit should they reach adulthood.

5. An unusual cache of at least 13 wooden coffins dating back 2,500 years has been discovered

The coffins were discovered in the desert necropolis of Saqqara in Egypt. What makes these coffins so special among the thousands interred in the tomb complex is the fact they have remained intact for millennia, and are still completely sealed - hundreds of years after their inhabitants died. History happens every day!
