Pay first, then get your fuel: Will this be the new system?
Updated | By Darren, Keri and Sky
Fuel theft is becoming a serious problem.
We previously shared a video showing cars fill-and-run.
Unfortunately, it's becoming a problem for petrol stations.

These cars let the petrol attendant close the petrol tank, then drive off or take the chance when he/she goes looking for the card machine.
IOL got in contact with petrol attendants from a Glenwood petrol station who shared that they recently had four motorists fill their tanks then drive off without payment.
They now have a sign requesting for motorists to pay for the fuel before they receive it.
Other petrol stations have this sign:

When the IOL team spoke to Reaction SA Unit's Prem Balram, he shared that the team had only made two fuel theft arrests thus far.
We say this system be implemented before it becomes a bigger problem.
Other countries like the US have been doing it for years...
