At the young age of 21, Sherwin Green has managed to work with acclaimed brands like Mr Price, Discovery, and Toughees - to name a few - simply because of his burning passion for dance. He towers all these milestones by opening free dance classes at the BAT Centre, located in the belly of the city of Durban.

When the first wave of COVID-19 hit us in 2020, the world functioned primarily through digital and we were all connected by things like dance. Green, who grew up in Wentworth, was one of the people who was already a mover and he and his friend thought to start the hashtag '#031heat' with other dancers in his community, to connect them with other dancers in other parts of the country through challenges and other trending songs and moves.

What began in his backyard with his friend, August, blossomed into dance classes that he gives to the youth at the Durban's acclaimed community arts centre.

He admits that all this does not come from idling and hoping for things to happen.

The young dreamer is definitely going places with the kind of passion and energy he has. Now we are all wondering how he ended up with this gig, leading young aspiring dancers to their dreams at the BAT Centre?

"Sometimes, you know, views don't pay bills and likes and followers don't actually pay the bill," he shared. This is when he decided to end the social media dance challenges and took the step towards what he admits he feared at first.

Sherwin's dreams are to dominated the arts on an international scale. He wanted a step that would get him closer to that aspiration. What ran through his mind is "What can I do that's actually going to make my name even bigger?"

"I just said to myself, but let me just start dance classes."

It was not as easy as we put it, there were a couple of people who carried him to this national platform.

Take a listen to how he's a resident sponsored choreographer at the BAT Centre:

The sky is definitely the limit for Sherwin Green.

He hopes to have junior classes, as well as classes for adults. For now, it's intermediate classes.
