Darren Maule shares his view on ConCourt's ruling against spanking children

The Constitutional Court ruled that it's considered 'unconstitutional' to spank their kids at home. East Coast Breakfast's Darren Maule shared his comments on the ruling.

The Constitutional Court has upheld their ruling that parents cannot spank their children, and why are parents having so much difficulty with this?

My knee-jerk reaction is that if you think that you need to spank your child, you went wrong with raising your child long ago.

As a parent of an almost-teenager and having never having to raise my hand to Mouse, it doesn't feel like an accomplishment, it feels like parenting. If you're fighting back against the law and the justice system for the right to beat another human just because it's your child, you need to look at yourself and not at the Constitutional Court.

It is okay to accept change. We've been doing a lot of that lately. It wasn't that long ago when it wasn't frowned upon to beat another human being because they were a different colour. It wasn't long ago that it was completely acceptable to beat your women if she raised her voice to you. And not so long before that it was all okay to trade another human for a few pieces of precious metal in your hand.

We change. We evolve. We get better as a species. This is one of those steps. This is not a worthy fight. It should not be your right to think it's okay to beat another human being purely because you're responsible for bringing that human being into the world.

The Constitutional Court and all other courts say spanking your child is wrong. Let's just go with that.

We're better people because of it.
