Brad Binder is racing his way to the top!

Brad Binder is a household name and even more so after his tremendous victory at the Czech Grand Prix.

Brad Binder

South Africa's pride Brad Binder was born on 11 August 1995 in Potchefstroom and began his motorsport career in karts. At the tender age of eight, he became a national champion and has not looked back since.

The 25-year-old has gone from Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup to Moto2 and now he's earned his shot at MotoGP - there is no stopping his success.

Sky Tshabalala finally got to chat with him when he returned to South Africa and there was so much catching up to do.

Having won his first Moto3 victory in Jerez in 2016, just a few races after taking the 13th spot during his debut MotoGP race, Binder knew that it was only one direction he was taking and that was to the top.

Describing that all-important race in Jeres, Brad says it was the best race of his life.

"The first race went off track; finished 13th. The next race ended up crashing out because I made a mistake in the first corner. I went into the weekend thinking, 'I need a finish. It doesn't matter where I finish but I have a clean race it will be good enough.' And for some reason that day I just really had a good pace, felt great, and when I crossed the line for my first victory, it was like nothing I could ever explain, even if I wanted to," Binder tells Sky.

One of the best things about Binder's race in Jeres is that it was packed for us in his documentary, 'Becoming 33’, which looks into the arduous journey that took Brad from Rookie Cup hopeful through the ranks of Moto3 and Moto2 to factory racer at Red Bull KTM Racing.

An intriguing element in the documentary is seeing the amount of passion and support that Brad's mother displays.

"My mom lived with me in Europe and she came with me to every single race in my first two or three years of racing world championships. My mom is our biggest supporter... there is nothing that we need to worry about because she takes care of it," he says.
