Considerable damage was done to both King Edward and Prince Mshiyeni hospitals.

The first inspection was done at King Edward Hospital.

The inspection team including Health MEC Dr Sibongiseni Dhlomo, Human Settlement MEC, Ravi Pillay, eThekwini mayor Zandile Gumede and interim COGTA MEC, Weziwe Thusi, were led by hospital management around the facility.

They explained how surgeries had to come to a complete stop yesterday. The hospital is in the process of making alternative arrangements to get procedures underway again.

The hospital was also flooded and patients had to be turned away. The delegation is expected to also address media on the full extent of damages and possible solutions.

Meanwhile, the South African Weather Service says Amanzimtoti, south of Durban, had been the hardest hit area during the storm yesterday.
