Forecaster Julius Mahlangu says no heavy rain is expected in KwaZulu-Natal.

Mahlangu says the cut off low pressure system that brought massive downpours yesterday has moved out of the country, resulting in better conditions in Durban and the rest of the province.

"We just expecting partly cloudy conditions in the morning and then it is going to clear as the day progresses. Not much is expected weather wise, except for coastal areas that will still have high seas. There is an alert for high seas between Durban and Maputo," he said.

Mahlangu says Durban and areas south of the city, including Amanzimtoti, were among the worst areas affected by the storm yesterday. Heavy rains saw roads, homes and buildings left underwater.

Some vehicles even became submerged in floodwaters.

The storm began in the south of the city then proceeded to the north on Durban. In case you missed it, watch the timelapse video of the storm approaching below.

Meanwhile, the provincial government will begin assessing the damage caused by the storm this morning.

The departments of Health, Human Settlements and Co-operative Governance, together with eThekwini mayor Zandile Gumede, will make site inspections today.
