Umhlanga call centre CEO granted bail for lockdown infringement

National police have confirmed that they have arrested the CEO of CCI South Africa call centre for contravention of regulations of the national lockdown.

This after about 100 employees were evacuated from the call centre in Umhlanga yesterday.

46-year-old Mark Chana appeared briefly in the Verulam Magistrates Court this morning and was granted bail of R5000.

It is understood that Chana is facing charges relating to failing to close his company as it does not fall under government’s list of essential services during the 21-day lockdown.

 

According to a police report, approximately 100 employees worked in one office where no social distancing was practiced. Police say, No gloves and masks were given to employees.

Police spokesperson, Vishnu Naidoo says Chana will be in court again soon.
