COVID-19: Premier calls for increased force
Updated | By Nushera Soodyal
KZN Premier, Sihle Zikalala, says he has instructed law enforcement to apply increased force and put measures in place to make sure residents abide by the National lockdown regulations.
Zikalala made the remarks at a press briefing in Mayville yesterday.
His comments come two days after it emerged that over 1400 people had been arrested for contravention of the lockdown regulations in the province.
Zikalala says he's also received multiple complaints about the brutality of soldiers.
"If soldiers are harsh and hard on you the question should be 'Why are you there'?" in the first place, he said.
"While human rights must be protected but this includes an individual responsibility. So that is what we are saying", Zikalala said.
"Soldiers cannot be negotiating", the premier said.
