Yet another KwaZulu-Natal school has been temporarily shut after a teacher tested positive for COVID-19.
The KZN Education Department says health officials closed Clairwood Secondary School on Tuesday morning after receiving word of the case.
KZN Education HOD, Enoch Nzama says the teacher was in contact with staff members last week and had no interaction with learners.
"He [the teacher] only received the results at the time he had already interacted with the members of staff. So the school has been closed.
"The teams of the Department of Health came early in the morning. They instructed us to close the school, and they took all the teachers for testing.
"We are expecting the results to be out in two to three days, but we are also hoping that the school will open within three days," he says.
Its the second school in the province which had to close its doors just one day after re-opening.
Apollo Secondary School, in Chatsworth, south of Durban also had an educator testing positive for the virus.
Teachers and pupils there are currently being screened and tested.
"The teachers started teaching yesterday, and they started interacting with learners when they reported on to school on Monday.
"Sanitising and orientation took place on Monday and Tuesday, so meaning that there's been a lot of interaction between teachers and learners," says Nzama.
