This Mandela Day, East Coast Radio and Busamed are coming together to give one deserving person more than a helping hand, a real second chance.
For the past 30 years, East Coast Radio has used Mandela Day to help change lives across KZN.
Together with our listeners and partners, we have helped build homes, support schools, feed families and pay school fees. But this year, The Big Favour is taking on something deeply personal and potentially life-changing.
This Mandela Day, East Coast Radio, together with Busamed, is giving one deserving person access to a life-changing medical procedure.
Some people live with pain quietly. Some carry medical conditions that affect their ability to work, move, sleep, care for their families or simply live a normal life. For many, the wait for surgery can be long, emotional and financially impossible.
Now, we are asking KZN to help us find someone who needs that second chance. If you know someone who is in need of surgery and whose life could be changed through this opportunity, tell us their story.
Maybe it is someone you love. Maybe it is someone in your community. Maybe it is someone who has been waiting for relief for far too long.
Through The Big Favour, East Coast Radio and Busamed want to give one person the chance to move towards less pain, more hope and a different future.
Submissions open on 6 July and close on 8 July. Shortlisted candidates will be announced on 13 July, with medical assessments taking place at Busamed Hospital before the final beneficiary is selected.
The selected candidate’s journey will be shared with KZN, from the moment they receive the news, to the support around their procedure, and the campaign wrap-up after surgery.
