SANEF condemns media ban at 16 days of Activism event
Updated | By Jarryd Subroyen
The SA National Editors' Forum says government ministers' restricting information from being made public - is concerning.
"The media is there to ask the difficult questions on behalf of the South African public, so when a minister bars a media house from attending a government event - it is an abuse of authority and of power," the forum's Mahlatse Mahlase said.
Mahlase has been commenting on reports that journalists from news agency, ENCA were barred from covering the launch of the 16 days of Activism campaign by Bathabile Dlamini in KwaZulu-Natal this past weekend.
According to the reporters, the Minister of Women in the Presidency had wanted to be interviewed only by the SABC.
But government later issued a media statement saying that the Minister would never do that. It's added that she's launched a probe into the allegations against her office.
