When he was 11 months old, Brryan Jackson’s father Brian Stewart injected him with HIV to get himself out of paying child support for his son and was given a life sentence for attempted murder.

Brryan’s mother left in 1991 when his father started becoming abusive towards her. Stewart actually even went as far as denying that Brryan was his son and even told his wife that Brryan would not live past five years of age.

When Brryan was admitted to hospital when he was a baby, Brian stole an HIV blood sample from the lab and injected his son with it. It took four years to realise what had happened – he had been infected with full blown AIDS and had picked up infections.

Brryan experienced a difficult childhood. He was bullied really badly at school, being called names such as “Aids boy” and “Gay boy”.

Years on, Brryan said that his faith allowed him to forgive his father. Speaking at Stewart’s parole hearing, Brryan said that “I have no connection to him. I wouldn’t even recognise him as my father”. Stewart was denied parole for five years this past July.

Thanks to modern advances in medicine and treatment of the virus, Brryan’s HIV is basically undetectable so he will not be able to pass the virus on.
