Darren pays tribute to music legend - Prince

It still seems unreal and perhaps I will always want to disbelieve it but Prince has died at the age of 57.

If I had to chose one song to dedicate to Prince as a requiem to his passing it would have to be The Ladder.

It has always been one of the most poignant for me. It's from his Around The World in a Day album and he sums up the human condition in this allegorical song.

Prince has always been my favourite artist and I am so thankful for his massive body of work that I can still enjoy for the rest of my life.

Everybody has one Prince song in their lives that has some special meaning -Purple Rain, When Doves Cry, Diamonds and Pearls, Cream, Darling Nicki, Little Red Corvette, Sign Of The Times and Seven.

Prince's power and enigma for me, lay in his effortless merging of seemingly irreconcilable themes. Sexuality Vs Spirituality. Social Commentary Vs Personal Struggle.

"Everybody's looking for the ladder
Everybody wants salvation of the soul
The Steps you take are no easy road
But the reward is great
For this who want to go (I do)"

RIP Prince
