THURSDAY 23 OCTOBER

I See A Different You @ Open Plan Studio
I’m so glad I double-checked this event as I thought it was one night only!

But if you get yourself sorted you still have time to make it to this exhibition at the Open Plan Studio in Station Road.

I See A Different You is a collaboration of three photographers from Soweto who portray Africa as they see it.

Doors open at 6pm and close around 10pm.

Entrance is free but the dress code on the flyer says “trendy- casual”…so wear something fun. It’s definitely worth a look.

FRIDAY 24 OCTOBER

Paras Dlamini @ Jazzy Rainbow (Morningside)
KwaMashu born Paras Dlamini is well known for his energetic presentation of the music he terms “Ubuntu Music” (a cross blend of ethnic sounds laced with a jazzy and contemporary soul outlook). Tickets cost R70 and the gig gets underway at 8pm.

Durban Folk Night @ Open Plan Studio
The Open Plan Studio at 39 Station Drive is a venue cool enough to just go check out, but besides that this Friday they will be hosting the third instalment of the popular Durban Folk Nights, this time featuring an incredible assortment of songwriters. The Hinds Brothers have just finished a successful Cape Town tour and will be there, and well-known violinist Hezron Chetty has been hard at work on a debut solo album. The Volsunga Saga, newbies to the scene, add a bit of a rock ‘n roll jive to the evening and Iris & the Tokoloshe are also an exciting act to watch. Doors open at 7pm, R40 before 9pm, R60 after. And there’s pizza on sale too so you won’t go hungry.

Shortstraw @ LIVE
Shortstraw are an indie rock band from Jozi and with their simple melodies and catchy rhythms they’ve rocked some of the best venues in South Africa. They’re well known for getting the crowd on their feet with their unique indie style. They’ll be at LIVE this Friday night; tickets are R70 at the door. Doors open at 8pm.
