The final day of the Eon Consulting, Volleyball South Africa Beach Open at New Beach concluded with sunshine and top class volleyball action.

The men’s finals was dejavu of the July 2013 tournament with top seeded men’s teams Jerome Fredericks/Leo Williams and Freedom Chiya /Grant Goldschmidt knock heads once again in the finals.

Both teams which represented South Africa in the 2012 London Olympics showcased world-class vigour and form but ultimately team Chiya and Goldschmidt reclaimed their title.

The female finals saw Randy Williams/Palesa Sekhonyana against Judith Augoustides and Kirsten Pocock who were no strangers to the centre court. After a tough nail biting 3 sets, team Sekhonyana /Willams proved to be the stronger of the two and claimed the women’s title.

The most valuable player in the men’s division was awarded to Freedom Chiya for his unstoppable blocking throughout the tournaments with Palesa Sekhonyana taking the women’s division.

This was the second of the third national events to be staged at New Beach with the next leg of the beach volley action taking place on the 6th to the 8th of December at New Beach.

The tournament which was hosted by beach volleyball promoters Geness Consulting and Volleyball South Africa boasted SA’s top 44 teams who fought for massive prize purse of R65 000 as well as a spot in the FIVB City of Durban International Open this December.

Volleyball promoter Geness Consulting will also be bringing first ever Federation Internationale de Volleyball (FIVB) City of Durban Open International Beach Volleyball tournament to South African shores.

The five day event will run from 11th to the 15th December 2013 on Durban’s New Beach. The event is tipped to attract the best beach volleyball stars on the planet from both men's and women's professional teams with development clinics held a day before the main events.

The weekend’s beach volleyball action showcased great family entertainment with food stalls, kid’s zones as well as free entry to all tournaments. The event is powered by Eon Consulting, New Africa Inks, EThekwini Metropolitan Municipality and SAB Miller.
