PHOTO: Kramer wins fishing title
Updated | By Staff Writer
Kramer secured the title by catching four different species in the form of yellowfin tuna, Natal snoek, bonito and a kingfish.
His impressive haul in challening conditions earned Kramer a new jetski and trailer valued at around R250 000.
The contest drew 95 jetski anglers from around the country and the field included several of our top anglers.
I also fished on the Saturday morning and started the day in encouraging fashion by landing a large variety of baitfish.
My haul included mackerel, shad and a nice sarda-sarda.
The shad, of course, were returned to the ocean as the shad season is currently closed.
That baitfish success had me fancying my chances of something bigger, but my early hopes evaporated as the sun rose higher.
In the end, I returned to Durban Ski Boat Club with no more than a tan to show for my efforts.
I hope to do better on my next fishing quest and hope it comes sooner rather than later.
Tales of my successful garrick quest at Zinkwazi back in July are now wearing decidedly thin and my wife is taking my promises of fresh tuna with more than just a pinch of salt.
I guess that is why we call this sport fishing and not catching...
I did get to see a very large whale breaching the ocean surface on several occasions.
