Over R350m spent improving KZN schools
Updated | By Anelisa Kubheka
Officials say this figure includes upgrades and complete rebuilds at some facilities.
The Umlazi Education District's manager Nathe Gumede made the comments at the opening of a R6.65-million school upgrade at Nsimbini Primary School in Durban's Mayville area yesterday.
The upgrade includes a full service centre aimed at helping pupils with learning disabilities.
Tsogo Sun, Suncoast Casino and the NGO Vukukhanye worked with the department on the project.
Gumede says about R2-million came from the department.
''To the community as a whole and especially parents, your active participation in the education of your children cannot be over-emphasized.
''This includes developing and strengthening the parent-teacher and learner relationship. Supporting your children in extra-mural activities and being eyes and ears of the school's safety and security,'' she said.
