Updated | By Nondumiso Zakwe
The infant believed to be two months old was found on Marine Drive after a local resident spotted its body and alerted officials.
The police's Thulani Zwane says the gender of the child could not to be determined as it was badly mutilated.
''We have opened a case of inquest after a headless body of a child was found at the Umhlanga area last Friday. A case of inquest was then opened by the Durban North Police for further investigations.
''Until now there has been no arrests made and we're appealing to anyone who might have information on those involved in the killing and dumping of the child's body which would lead to their arrests,'' he said.
