Hot summer trends for the festive season

The festive season is just another reason for women to raid their wardrobes or go shopping for fabulous new clothes - as if we ever needed an excuse!

We caught up with fashion blogger and social media junkie, Miliswa Sitshwele, to find out what’s on her radar this summer.

"I love fashion, new clothes excite me. I literally spend hours thinking of ways to re-invent my closet. I am always on the lookout for feminine vintage treasures. I believe that no outfit is a coincidence. Looking good requires planning and coordination - that is my motto," she says.

Miliswa, who was recently chosen by Foschini to become one of their "Fashion Friends" (a project aimed at empowering women through fashion), says her fail-proof party outfit is no fuss.

"Year-end parties are a great way to relax and look good. You can’t go wrong in a pair of ripped denims, heels and a good blazer. Jumpsuits are also great this festive. I have a tribal print one – it goes with everything. If all else fails rock a maxi dress. It screams elegance and femininity," she says.

Braai party

If you are going to a braai you want to be comfy so shorts, a dress or even the ripped denims with your favourite hat.

Beach party

If you are off to the beach wear a full cozzie or a high waist bikini. I love [the bikini option] cos it’s so retro and super stylish. One of this season’s must have outfits is a kimono. I recently bought one and wore it with black shorts and heels – so fab.  Kimonos also go well with a LBD (Little Black Dress - a must in every woman's closet).

Cocktail/ New Year's Eve Party

You can't go wrong with a LBD. When it comes to an LBD the more accessorised the better. Wear a statement neckpiece, chunky bangles and earrings and do make sure that your make-up is on point too. LBDS are great for New Year’s Eve parties.

If you don't want to break the bank this festive season, you can spice up an old outfit - though according to Miliswa there is no such thing: "There’s no such thing as an old outfit, let’s call it retro. To spice it up you can change up your accessories, add more colour, wear a head scarf or heels instead of flats. Heels really elevate an outfit," she suggests.

And last but not least, no outfit is complete without the perfect shoes. We asked Miliswa what her must-have shoes are for the season:

"Gladiator sandals! OMG I cannot wait to get myself a pair.  Every girl needs gladiator sandals," she says.
