Gateway Celeb Chef Showdown

Gateway Celeb Chef Showdown

Last year the Gateway Celeb Chef Showdown was a huge hit with the Umhlanga Shopping Mall and this year it’s even bigger and better, says host Terence Pillay

Chefs are the new rock stars. They have their own television shows, tons of die-hard fans that treat them like demi-gods and fans pay good money for the opportunity to meet them live, in-the-flesh.

So take this and couple it with some of the best loved celebrities in the country and you have a winner. And this is exactly what the Gateway Theatre of Shopping took into consideration when they took 10 of the country’s most popular personalities and pit them against each other in 5 of the centre’s restaurants.

Last year rugby legend Stefan Terblanche walked off with top honours but had his title grabbed by film and television star Leeanda Reddy this past week, when they went head to head live at the Ocean Basket.

This week it’s the turn of Oscar winning  film star Terry Pheto who will battle it out against Vanessa Marawa, winner of the first ever Survivor South Africa at Circus Circus.

Gateway’s Aileen Rodel says they choose the celebrities according to how popular they are and their social media following…

The dates for the next few shows are:

Deena Naidoo (Masterchef SA) vs Natarah Nadesen (East Coast Breakfast) at Ninos on 10 September.

Rosie Motene (actress and TV personality)  vs Gangs of Ballet (SA Band) at Mozambik on 17 September.

John Webb (Carte Blanche Anchor) vs Tumisho Masha (actor and TV personality) at Café Limone on 24 September.

The winners of all 5 heats will then compete at Beluga on 1 October.
