Flat rental conman in Ballito area

There's a flat rental conman doing the rounds in the Ballito area. Umhlali Detectives are investigating two cases.

They've been opened in Ballito after the 33-year-old Indian man took out a rental lease, stayed in the fully-furnished accommodation but did a bogus EFT transfer. By the time the flat owners have realised the man is defrauding them, he's already had free accommodation for a few weeks. He then disappears, presumably moving on to the next area. In this case, the man is softly-spoken, was last driving a white Proton and has a prior conviction for fraud. If you have any information about this man, please contact the Investigating Officer Detective Mfeka on 072 3821583.

Follow up: Bogus cop arrested

A few weeks back we mentioned a man who was posing as a Durban metro policeman, who called Dawn to say she had outstanding speeding fines, and he could give her a big discount on them if she paid him directly, via Money Market. Dawn wasn't fooled and has since followed this up. She's alerted me that the suspect has since been arrested. He'd been working at a panel beater's where she'd sent her car, which is how he knew her car make and model and cellphone number. It's believed he targeted women he perceived as being vulnerable, who he felt he could manipulate. He certainly misjudged Dawn!

Rhino poaching conviction

Finally, some good news in the fight against the plundering of our national treasure, the rhino. Two rhino poachers have been sentenced to a total of 11 years imprisonment for their crimes by the White River Magistrate Court after being arrested in Kruger National Park last October.
