Durban dancers to rock SAIFTA

More than 40 Durban dancers are just days away from rocking the stage at the first South Africa India Film and Television Awards (SAIFTA)…
Our team headed down to the rehearsals to find out how the east coasters, who were handpicked for the glitzy event, are coping with Bollywood’s rigorous, flamboyant dance style.
SAIFTA takes place at Durban’s ICC on Friday, 6 September and will see constellation of Indian cinema stars heading our way. They will be joined by the cream of SA’s film and TV talent.
Over the past weeks, expert panels from India and South Africa have been judging entries from both countries in terms of film and TV. These awards will be handed out at the prestigious Oscar-like event on Friday.
A stellar entertainment lineup will pack a punch on the night with the likes of Bollywood divas Priyanka Chopra, Madhuri Dixit and Jacqueline Fernandez and movie hunks Ranveer Singh and Sidharth Malhotra performing their greatest hits.
Local stars Aaron McIlroy, Jailoshini Naidoo and Karen van Pletsen will also take to the stage while Durban designer, Haroun Hansrot will showcase his SAIFTA red carpet colelction.
SA film stars attending include the likes of Jack Devnarain, Hennie Jacobs, Maurice Paige, Latoya Mangezi, Thembi Nyandeni, Nandi Mngoma, Vinette Abraham, Zethu Dlomo, Robert Whitehead and Donnalee Roberts.
ECR chatted to Bollywood choreographer Binny Johny who is helping the Durban dancers prepare for the extravaganza. We also spoke to a few of the dancers to find out how they are coping with the sequences…
