Celebrity baby pictures... Really?

Celebrity baby pictures... Really?

Darren cannot understand the hullabaloo every time a celebrity has a baby.

The world's press literally scrambled to get the first pictures of Kanye West and Kim Kardashian's baby, North West.

Then the world came to a stand still for the announcement of the name of Prince George. And the media have once again amped it up now that Kate, the Duchess of Cambridge, is pregnant again. It's almost as if the world marvels at their ability to procreate.

I can, if I relinquish my mental faculties momentarily, understand our fascination with the stars and perhaps their sexual exploits - but why their babies?

Do we anticipate that their perceived pedigree guarantees them a place in the future gossip magazines and that that warrants the chronicling of their arrival as well as the intense scrutiny of their pre-school antics for any sign of the gossip fodder they could potentially provide?

I don't want the newest, the latest or the first baby photos. The newest and the latest photos that I get excited about are these:

The first pictures of the latest discovered particle - the Higgs Boson:

Tthe first images of the (new) biggest dinosaur ever! Meet the Dreadnoughtus Schrani.

Here is the first picture of the first ever 3D printed Ducatti!

What, in all fairness, could the fruits of the loins of the likes of The Kardashians or The Windsors or The Pitts for that matter possibly contribute to the future of this world that warrants the great pains we go to in order to scoop the first images of these children who had no hand in choosing whether their mother was Kim Kardashian or Kim Koekemoer?

I would much rather follow the lineage of people who contributed to the betterment of the human race or the advancement of our species.

Tell me about the great grandchild of Winston Churchill or Martin Luther King and if he/she has the oratory and diplomacy skills of his/her ancestor?

Where are the offspring of Albert Einstein and Stephen Hawking? And did they stumble upon Dark Matter or black holes in the sand pit?

Have the likes of Vincent Van Gogh, Leonardo da Vinci or Jackson Pollock passed on their prodigious seed and, if so, have their favourable genetics manifested positively at all?

I know Roald Dahl's grand daughter achieved a semblance of fame but only later in life and only when she behaved in a manner that got the likes of the Kardashians their infamy...

Sophie posed nude for the Yves Saint Laurent beauty campaign for Vogue. That is what the press gravitated to and not her
literary contributions. The media clearly prioritises titties over titles.

I have given up hope trying to understand the people who need these celebrity baby pictures, who buy these pictures, who spend hours on social media fixating on these things.

I've also almost given up complaining about it. Almost.
