Alviro Petersen succession debate

Morne van Wyk knows who he would like to see filling the Test spot vacated by the retirement of Alviro Petersen.

Sunfoil Dolphins skipper, Van Wyk, says he would pick Reeza Hendricks as replacement for Petersen.

Van Wyk concedes that the likes of Stephen Cook, Stiaan van Zyl and Colin Ingram are also quality options.

However, he feels that Van Zyl is not a natural opener and that Hendricks has shown consistently that he can bat at the top of the innings.

Van Zyl has been opening the batting for the Nashua Cape Cobras since the departure of Petersen from the Test scene.

I suspect Van Zyl feels it is his most realistic crack at a regular Test spot.

Ingram, meanwhile, has scored the most runs in the Sunfoil Series this season.

He has done so at an average of 66.

Cook has scored the second most Sunfoil Series runs this summer and also averages 66.

Cook, now 32, has been an opener for years and has scored some big centuries at domestic level.

He is also a leader and I would pick Cook as replacement for Petersen.
