16 men who are guilty of abuse

16 men who are guilty of abuse

To highlight 16 Days of Activism, Darren would like to remind you of 16 famous people who - it would shock you to know - have been found guilty of abuse toward women and children

It would be all too easy to include in this list the glaringly obvious examples of the reprehensible abusive men such as OJ Simpson, Woody Allen, Oscar Pistorius, Roman Polanski and Mel Gibson.

No, what I would rather highlight in this list of 16 supposed 'men' is how you never ever really know who could be an abuser.

I’d also like to point out to both women and children a few things they should learn about abuse and abusers:

- you can't tell who is or could be an abuser.

- at the very first sign – get out and away!

- the cycle of abuse is everywhere.

- it is never ever your fault.

- you do not deserve what they mete out

4. James Brown

5. Slash

6. Vanilla Ice

Has been arrested for domestic violence no less than three times.

8. Terrence Howard

10. Floyd Mayweather, Jr.

11. Eric Roberts

12. Bill Cosby

The lovable Dr Cliff Huxtable now faces numerous accusations from many women who claim that he drugged and sexually assaulted them. The allegations go as far back as the 1970s.

I need to pause and highlight that this abusive behavior is not a symptom of a modern degenerate society.  This problem is historic, is ongoing and rampant but will not change until one generation steps up and says; "No more!"

Great men from history who too have been guilty…..

13. Charles Dickens -  a wife-beater.

14. J.D. Salinger -  a Paedophile

15. Pablo Picasso tormented all the women in his life.

And number 16 breaks my heart!

16. Sean Connery

He has publicly admitted to beating women, and has said he doesn’t see anything wrong with it!

These are his words from an interview in Playboy magazine:

“I don’t think there is anything particularly wrong about hitting a woman - although I don’t recommend doing it in the same way that you’d hit a man. An openhanded slap is justified – if all other alternatives fail and there has been plenty of warning. If a woman is a bitch, or hysterical, or bloody-minded continually, then I’d do it. I think a man has to be slightly advanced, ahead of the woman. I really do – by virtue of the way a man is built, if nothing else. But I wouldn’t call myself sadistic.”

Does this man not realise that by virtue of the way a man is built – he will normally outweigh a woman in stature and definitely in strength!

So, not only is the violence against women and children rife both here in South Africa and abroad – what is utterly disconcerting is that it is not even considered a real problem in the hearts and minds of some of our heroes.

And now that you have read this blog….are they really still your heroes?
