eThekwini Municipality says it is bracing itself to welcome even more tourists to Durban ahead of the popular New Year celebrations.
Spokesperson Tozi Mthethwa says just under 484 000 people flocked to various beaches over the Christmas weekend.
She has once again appealed to beachgoers to only swim in designated areas and to co-operate with lifeguards.
