Taxi fire causes traffic backlog in Durban
Updated | By ECR Newswatch
Durban firefighters have extinguished a taxi that burst into flames on the N2 northbound carriageway near Clare Road bridge this morning. The incident caused major traffic delays on the busy Durban route.
Medics had been attending to an accident on the N2 southbound carriageway after Umgeni Road when a minibus taxi on the opposite lane caught alight.
Rescue Care's Garrith Jamieson says no injuries were reported.
"Paramedics rushed across to the scene. Fortunately, the taxi was empty and the driver and conductor managed to escape before the vehicle became engulfed in flames. Due to the nature of the incident, the N2 northbound was temporarily closed because of the fire and while emergency personnel worked to put it out," Jamieson said.
