Search for second Malema driver launched

A search has been launched for a second driver, supposedly the one that exceeded the speed limit whilst transporting EFF leader Julius Malema to Bloemfontein for a scheduled court appearance yesterday.

This is according to Free State Director of Traffic Management, George Ramotsoto. He confirmed to OFM News this afternoon that the driver who was arrested in Ventersburg had supposedly switched places with the first driver, who was doing 187km/h in a 120km/h zone near Parys and drove past a traffic official. 

Ramotsoto adds that the individual who was arrested has since been released on a warning, and that a case of obstruction of justice has been opened against him. 

Meanwhile, OFM News' Dane Beisheim reports that a search has been launched for the first driver.

Ramotsoto says, when found, the first driver will be brought in for an identity parade.

"We are looking for the driver, the one who was speeding. At this point in time we cannot confirm the next court date, as the SAPS are continuing their investigation" Ramotsoto said.

Meanwhile, the case against Malema was postponed yesterday to June 5 next year in the Bloemfontein Magistrate's Court, pending the outcome of an appeal against a similar charge in Newcastle in KwaZulu-Natal.

The charges relate to contravening the Riotous Assemblies Act for urging supporters to invade land. After the Bloemfontein court appearance Malema addressed a crowd of supporters outside court.
